A workshop on flood recovery project was organized to share experiences of interventions on April 25, 2018, in Gulshan, Dhaka. Director General of NGO Affairs Bureau (NGOAB) K.M. Abdus Salam was present as chief guest on the occasions.
Save the Children along with Brac and World Vision has been implementing Flash flood recovery project in north-east Bangladesh with the funding support from UKAID through UN Office for the Project Services (UNOPS).
Md. Ezabat Ullah Consortium Manager of Save the Children shared key findings of flood recovery program while Md. Mostak Hussain, Director- Humanitarian of Save the Children delivered an introductory speech.
Omar Farook, DFID Humanitarian Advisor shared his reflection on various project intervention. ‘Interventions were timely and cash support provided immediately after the flood helped us immensely to resume livelihood activities’- said Ambia who came from a remote location of Jamalganj under Sunamganj district.
Khaled Mahmood, DG (in-charge), Department of Disaster Management was present as special guest. “Bangladesh is vulnerable to extreme weather events and flood cause a great damage to our lives and livelihoods almost every year. Experience shared today on the interventions made in Haor areas would help us guide future programs in the north-western part of Bangladesh”- said Khaled.
In his speech, K.M. Abdus Salam lauded NGO activities during the humanitarian crisis and combating disaster. “I am glad to know that NGOs have involved local communities and local administration in implementing flood recovery project. Coordination with government agencies would help sustain activities even after completion of the project”- said K.M. Abdus Salam, Director General of NGO Affairs Bureau. He also lauded UKAID and other members of donor community for their continuous support.
