Debutant pacer Shehan Madushanka’s late hat-trick after early double-strike by Dushmantha Chameera have fired Sri Lanka to a 79-run win over Bangladesh in the tri-nation series final.
Rubel Hossain’s seventh four-for restricted Sri Lanka to 221 as they chose to bat first against the Tigers after winning the toss at the Mirpur Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday.
The top scorers were Upul Tharanga (56), captain Dinesh Chandimal (45) and Niroshan Dickwella (42).
Bangladesh started their innings without Shakib Al Hasan, who was escorted off the pitch after injuring a finger while landing badly during a dive and was replaced by Nasir Hossain as a fielder.
The Tigers fell in trouble with a 22 for 3 when Chameera took out Tamim Iqbal and Sabbir Rahman while Mohammad Mithun was run out.
Mahmudullah and Mushfiqur Rahim showed some resilience before Mushfiqur was out leaving the team’s score at 80 for four.
Madushanka sealed the win by taking the wickets of Mahmudullah, skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza and Rubel in back-to-back balls.
Tharanga was declared the Player of the Match while Thisara Perera the Player of the Series.
