Grameenphone has signed a partnership agreement with BRAC today with an objective to create online access to marginalized children across the country. The signing ceremony took place at GP House recently.
The agreement was signed by Abul Kasem Mohiuddin Al-Amin, Chief Procurement Officer, Grameenphone and Mr. Asif, Senior Director – Strategy, Communication and Empowerment, BRAC. Among others, also present were Mr. Mahmud Hossain, Chief Corporate Affairs Officer, Grameenphone;, Mr. Masum Billah, Manager ICT – BRAC Education Program.
Under this agreement, Grmaeenphone will provide 250 (two hundred fifty) 3G WIFI ROUTER – and SIM cards to BRAC supported schools through BRAC Gonokendra program. GP will also provide data package (5 GB per month) to a total of 500 schools for free until December 31, 2018 which will provide internet access to over 200,000 children for free. As for the BRAC, they will ensure proper distribution of the modems and SIMs amongst 250 selected schools.
Explaining the objectives of this program, Mahmud Hossain, CCAO Grameenphone said, “While we are on the verge of entering a new era of 4G services, it is more pertinent now that internet availability will be more widespread than ever. As part of our safer online education efforts, we are teaming up with BRAC to achieve a common goal – to create access for marginalized children and specifically catering to online educational content.”
Asif Saleh, Senior Director – Strategy, Communication and Empowerment, BRAC stated, “With the massive technological resources and support of Grameenphone we are going to utilize our organizational capability to execute this grand scale technological empowerment. As this project will actually provide easy internet access to students, we are seeing this project as just a start of an internet enlightened future.”
