A wheel from the landing gear of a Biman Bangladesh aircraft has come off as soon as it left the runway of an airport.
The incident was reported on Wednesday from Nilphamari’s Syedpur airport, which handles domestic flights.
The Dash 8-200 aircraft, however, landed ‘safely’ at its destination, Dhaka, and all the passengers and the crew members were unharmed, said officials.
Biman Bangladesh’s Nilphamari Manager Alo Ahmed said flight BG-494 from Dhaka landed at the Syedpur airport at 8:40am.
“As soon as the plane took off at 9:30am to fly to Dhaka, one of the wheels of the landing gear came off,” he said.Biman’s General Manager of Public Relations Shakil Meraj said the pilot was immediately informed by the Syedpur air traffic control of the incident.
“All preparations were taken at the Shahjalal airport in Dhaka as Captain Atique and First Officer Yameen decided for an emergency landing.”
Around 10:30am, the aircraft landed safely with all the 66 passengers and five crew members unharmed, he told bdnews24.com.
Biman uses the Dash aircraft for its domestic flights. The only international destination it connects with Dash aircraft is Kolkata, according to Meraj.
“This aircraft was brought from Canada sometime between 2013 and 2014. So it can’t be described as an old aircraft,” he said.
Meraj said an inquiry has been opened into the glitch.
The four-member probe body led by Deputy Flight Safety Chief Captain Enam has been told to file their findings with 15 days, he added.
In a statement, Biman said senior officials, including Managing Director Captain Jamil were at the airport when the plane landed in Dhaka.
