The Jatiya Sangsad passed the “Civil Aviation Bill, 2017” aimed at enacting a time befitting legislation to ensure flight safety and implementing international civil aviation convention, reports BSS.
Civil Aviation and Tourism Minister Rashed Khan Menon moved the bill in the House, which was passed unanimously by voice votes with Deputy Speaker M Fazley Rabbi Miah in the chair.
The minister said the bill proposed punishment for violating the law and committing different types of crimes relating to flight operation, submitting false report, transporting risky goods and violating Bangladesh’s airspace.
Moving the bill, he said the law, once passed in parliament, would replace the existing Civil Aviation Ordinance of 1960.
The bill proposed a maximum seven-year rigorous imprisonment or a fine of Taka 50 lakh or the both for violating the Bangladesh airspace and life term imprisonment or a fine of Taka five crore for creating obstacle in flight operation intentionally.
The law also proposed a maximum five years rigorous imprisonment or a fine of Taka one crore or the both for violating the rules and regulations of the law and ANO and maximum five years jail and a fine of Taka one crore for certificate, license and permit forgery.
Besides, the law proposed a maximum life term jail or a fine of Taka five crore or the both for interfering in flight navigation and minimum seven years jail for taking away equipment of any flight that meets accident.
Under the law a National Recording System will remain to preserve date of Biman engine, propeller, appliance and other equipment of the registered Biman.
Following passage of the bill, the government through a gazette notification will publish an “Authentic English Text” of Bangla text of the law.
