“It has been good to engage with reputed organizations in order to boost up nutrition interventions in the southern Bangladesh and we would like to continue good work initiated by SPRING”- said Dr. A B M Muzharul Islam, Line Director of the National Nutrition Service and Director of the Institute of Public Health Nutrition while attending as special guest in the concluding ceremony of SPRING Bangladesh on March 21, 2017.
Acting Director of USAID’s Office of Population, Health, Nutrition and Education Miranda Beckman and Director of Country Initiatives for the SPRING project in Washington, DC, Dr. Altrena Mukuria, were also present as special guests.
With the financial support of USAID, Save the Children and Helen Keller International (HKI) along with partners have worked together to improve the nutritional status of pregnant and lactating women and children under two years of age by promoting and supporting the adoption of Essential Nutrition Actions and Essential Hygiene Actions (ENA/EHA) and the consumption of nutritious and diverse diets.
Working in Bangladesh’s 40 upazilas (sub-divisions) in the USAID Feed the Future zone of influence of Barisal and Khulna, SPRING/Bangladesh reaches a substantial proportion of the country’s nearly 160 million people, focusing on the most vulnerable to food insecurity and undernutrition, the ultra-poor.
Dr. Altrena Mukuria lauded Save the Children and HKI for excellent collaboration in implementing SPRING in the southern part of Bangladesh. Sharon Hauser, Director- PDQ of Save the Children in Bangladesh welcomed all and Mohammad Ali Reja, Deputy Chief of Party of SPRING/ Bangladesh presented details on farmer nutrition schools.
