Legendary folk singer and composer Abdul Gafur Hali died of old age complications here at the age of 88 early today, reports BSS.
Hali, lyricist of Bangla folk, mystical and local songs, and composer of many popular songs breathed his last at city’s Mount Hospital at Surson Road around 5 am early today. He had been suffering from old age complications for last two months.
He composed at least 2,000 bangla folk songs, like ‘Sona bondhu tui amare korli re dewana’ and ‘O Shyam Rengun noo jaio’.
He left behind two sons, two daughters and host of relatives, followers and admires to mourn his death.
Journalist Nasir Uddin Haider, a closed associate of Late Hali told that the dead body late Abdul Gafur Hali will be kept at the PHP heights of Nasirabad housing society today.
The first Namaz-E-Janaza will be held after Johr prayer tomorrow at Maizbhandari Darbar Sharif premises under Fatikchhari upazila while the second namaj-e-janaza will be held at Jamiatul Falah Mosque maiden after Magrib prayer, Nasir added.
His body will be buried at Rashidabad village of Shobhandandi union under Patiya upazila, following the third namaz-e-janaza to be held after Juma Prayer on Friday.
Hali was inspired by the works of another legendary folk song composer Askar Ali Pandit. He was the teacher of noted folk singer Shefali Gosh.
