The Malibu Coast wine region is one of the newest wine regions in California, receiving its official American Vinicultural Association (AVA) designation in July 2014. Long before the region was officially recognised, wine producers and growers have been making wine in the valleys and along the mountainsides of the area since the 1800s. The Malibu Coast AVA consists of more than 50 wine growers and producers, most producing only very small quantities that never reach the commercial marketplace. There are a few larger vineyards and established wine tasting rooms scattered throughout the Santa Monica Mountains from Westlake Village to Pacific Coast Highway where guests and oenophiles are welcome to sample some of the region’s best wines.
