Dhaka South City Corporation (DSCC) has started a month-long special cleanliness and crash program to reduce mosquitoes in response to a recent increase in mosquito infestation.
The campaign was officially launched at Wards 71 and 72 by DSCC Administrator Abdus Salam.
Habibur Rashid, the State Minister for the Railways Ministry and the Road Transport and Highways Division, was a special guest at the function.“A month-long special cleanliness and crash program has been launched to strengthen mosquito control efforts,” Abdus Salam stated at the drive’s commencement. A four-tier monitoring mechanism has been implemented at various levels to guarantee accountability and openness.
He added that in addition to miking in the impacted areas, local Imams will be enlisted to increase public awareness.
He cautioned that the executive magistrates would hold mobile courts if the locals did not remove mosquito breeding places.
Members of Parliament (MPs) and political figures in the area were encouraged by the administration to get involved in the initiative.
State Minister Habibur Rashid underlined the importance of giving the city’s underserved and undeveloped districts more consideration.
He assured that the government would extend full support to the city corporation in reclaiming and freeing canals from encroachments which are known as mosquito breeding grounds.
Participants in the drive, which started at 9:00 am, included about 250 employees from the DSCC’s waste management and health divisions. In addition to applying chemicals to control mosquitoes, they cleaned canals, drains, sewer lines, and walkways.
Additionally, BD Clean members and local neighbors participated in a public awareness event.
Chief Waste Management Officer Air Commodore Md. Mahbubur Rahman Talukder, DSCC Chief Executive Officer Md. Zahirul Islam, department heads, and local leaders were in attendance.
