In separate courtesy calls to Foreign Minister Dr. Khalilur Rahman today, the envoys of China, India, and Pakistan underlined their nations’ commitment to deepening bilateral ties with Bangladesh under the new administration.
According to a press release from the foreign ministry here, during the meetings at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the envoys congratulated Prime Minister Tarique Rahman on leading the Bangladesh Nationalist Party to a resounding victory in the general elections, which they described as one of the most free and fair in the nation’s history.
They also felicitated Dr. Khalilur Rahman on his assumption of office as Foreign Minister.
Chinese Ambassador Yao Wen conveyed China’s firm support for Prime Minister Tarique Rahman’s “Bangladesh First” policy and said the Chinese Premier intends to work closely with his Bangladeshi counterpart to further deepen bilateral cooperation.
Foreign Minister Dr. Rahman underscored the importance of advancing the Bangladesh-China Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership and called for enhanced Chinese engagement with all relevant stakeholders to facilitate the early repatriation of the Rohingyas.
Additionally, the Chinese ambassador sent Dr. Rahman an invitation from the Chinese Foreign Minister to make an official visit to China at a time that would be convenient for all parties.
In order to further develop bilateral collaboration, Indian High Commissioner Pranay Verma stated that his administration is prepared to collaborate closely with the new Bangladeshi government.
Dr. Rahman reaffirmed Bangladesh’s goal to establish a balanced, forward-thinking engagement with India that serves the interests of both nations’ citizens.
Both sides agreed to maintain regular and constructive engagement to further strengthen bilateral relations.
Ambassador Verma extended an invitation from Indian External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar for the Foreign Minister to undertake an official visit to New Delhi at an early date.
Pakistani High Commissioner Imran Haider conveyed his government’s keen interest in working closely with the new government of Bangladesh to further strengthen and broaden bilateral cooperation.
The foreign minister expressed the government’s intent to explore new avenues of collaboration with Pakistan for the welfare of the peoples of both countries.
He also underscored Bangladesh’s priority of strengthening regional cooperation for the benefit of the peoples of all South Asian nations.
The three envoys also met State Minister for Foreign Affairs Shama Obaed Islam during their visit.
