Germany’s Lufthansa won’t fly to Tehran until March 29: spokeswoman

Flights “from and to Tehran up to and including March 29” will not be operated by Germany’s Lufthansa airline, a company representative told AFP on Monday.

Austrian, a member of the Lufthansa group, will not operate flights to Tehran until at least February 16, according to the spokesperson.

The spokesperson stated that “a corridor of Iraqi airspace will be used” starting on Tuesday, January 20, despite the group’s announcement on Wednesday that it would avoid Iranian and Iraqi airspace.

“Iranian airspace will continue to be avoided,” the spokeswoman said.

On Friday the EU’s Aviation Safety Agency advised airlines to avoid Iranian airspace, after threats of US attacks.

US President Donald Trump has repeatedly discussed military action as a way of aiding Iranian anti-government demonstrators.

Protests linked to the cost of living broke out in Iran on December 28, spiralling into one of the largest protest movements against the clerical leadership since the Islamic republic was founded in 1979.
