Myanmar junta chief says election is ‘free and fair’: AFP

Min Aung Hlaing, the leader of Myanmar’s junta, declared on Sunday that the polls are “free and fair” even though they are being conducted by the military, which overthrew the government in a coup five years ago.

He told reporters, “We guarantee it to be a free and fair election,” following his vote in Naypyidaw, the capital. “Its reputation is not tarnished because it’s being held by the military.”
