On Friday, the Israeli military declared that it would strike a number of Hezbollah sites in Lebanon, including a training facility and weapons dumps.
“A number of weapons storage facilities and terrorist infrastructure sites were struck, which were used by Hezbollah to advance terror attacks against the state of Israel,” a military statement said.
Israel has continued to strike in Lebanon and has kept forces in five places it considers crucial, despite a truce in November 2024 that was meant to put an end to more than a year of war between Israel and the Iran-backed Hezbollah militia.
According to an AFP compilation of data from the Lebanese health ministry, Israeli fire has killed over 340 people in Lebanon since the ceasefire.
The Friday strikes occur one day after three persons were killed in similar Israeli attacks in southern Lebanon and close to the Syrian border.
The Israeli military had reported on Thursday it had killed a member of arch-foe Iran’s elite Quds Force in a strike in Lebanon.
On Friday, the military said it had struck several military structures of Hezbollah, warning it would “remove any threat posed to the state of Israel”.
Under heavy US pressure and fears of expanded Israeli strikes, Lebanon has committed to disarming Hezbollah, starting in the south of the country near the frontier.
By year’s end, Lebanon’s army intends to finish the disarming south of the Litani River, which is roughly 30 kilometers (19 miles) from the Israeli border.
Hezbollah has rebuffed pleas to turn in its weaponry, while Israel has questioned the efficacy of the Lebanese military and accused the group of rearming.
