Dense fog drastically hampered visibility at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport today, causing eight incoming aircraft to Dhaka to be rerouted to other airports, according to airport officials.
When visibility at the capital’s main airport decreased owing to severe fog, airport officials indicated that safety concerns led to the diversions.
According to officials, three of the flights were rerouted to Shah Amanat International Airport, four landed in Kalkata, India, and one was rerouted to Bangkok International Airport.
They said normal flight operations at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport will resume once weather conditions improve.
Meanwhile, the concerned airlines are providing necessary assistance, including meals and hotel accommodation, to passengers affected by delays and diversions, as required.
Airport authorities thanked passengers for their cooperation and patience amid the temporary disruption.
