Bangladesh and Nepal are actively pursuing enhanced cross-border tourism and deeper people-to-people connections, a commitment reaffirmed at the recent Nepal-Bangladesh Tourism Meet held in Dhaka. The event, a collaborative effort to unlock shared opportunities in the travel sector, signals a concerted push for greater bilateral cooperation.
Jointly organized by the Embassy of Nepal in Dhaka and the Nepal Tourism Board (NTB), the gathering, themed ‘Neighbourly Nepal: Land of Lifetime Experiences,’ brought together key stakeholders from both nations. The focus was clear: to explore concrete avenues for bolstering tourism collaboration.
Nepalese Ambassador to Bangladesh, Ghanshyam Bhandari, speaking as chief guest, highlighted Nepal’s escalating appeal among Bangladeshi travelers. He underscored the Himalayan nation’s diverse attractions, from its stunning natural landscapes and rich cultural heritage to its array of adventure offerings. Bhandari emphasized that tourism and cultural exchanges are vital for celebrating the long-standing friendship between the two countries.
Calling for robust business-to-business engagement, the Ambassador urged tour and travel entrepreneurs from both sides to forge stronger partnerships, contributing to mutual growth through increased tourism.
Rohini Prasad Khanal, Director of the NTB, provided a comprehensive overview of Nepal’s varied tourism products. His presentation showcased everything from popular activities like trekking, mountaineering, and paragliding to niche segments such as spiritual retreats, wellness escapes, and medical tourism. “We invite Bangladeshis not only to visit but to truly connect with Nepal and return home with unforgettable stories,” Khanal stated, extending a warm invitation.
AKM Moniruzzaman, Joint Secretary of Bangladesh’s Ministry of Civil Aviation and Tourism, stressed tourism’s crucial role in fostering regional ties. He advocated for the creation of joint tourism packages, positioning Bangladesh and Nepal as complementary destinations for international visitors.
Silwal, Deputy Chief of Mission at the Nepalese Embassy, reinforced that the event underscored Nepal’s strong desire to deepen tourism cooperation with Bangladesh.
The meet also heard from Abdus Salam Aref, President of the Association of Travel Agents of Bangladesh (ATAB), and Mohiuddin Helal, Chairman of the Asian Tourism Fair.
Prior to the formal proceedings, dedicated B2B (Business to Business) and networking sessions facilitated direct collaboration among travel operators from both countries. The Nepali delegation included NTB officials and representatives from thirteen travel companies. The event saw participation from over 150 individuals, encompassing government officials, tour operators, airline executives, hoteliers, and various other stakeholders from Bangladesh’s dynamic tourism and hospitality sector.
