Thailand closes border to tourists after Cambodia clash

In light of continuing tensions with its neighbor, Cambodia, Thailand closed two of its border crossings to tourists on Saturday as a precaution.

The decision comes after a Cambodian soldier was killed on May 28 during a brief military conflict in the Emerald Triangle, which is the region where the borders of Laos and the two countries intersect.

The 817-kilometer (508-mile) border between Thailand and Cambodia was first drawn by France in 1907, when Cambodia was a French province. The neighbors have been disputing different un-delineated places along the frontier for the majority of the next century.
