Biman suspends Narita flight operations

Biman Bangladesh Airlines announced today the temporary cessation of its direct flight operations on the Dhaka-Narita-Dhaka route, effective from July 1st.

The national flag carrier attributed this decision to operational exigencies arising from the ongoing Hajj pilgrimage, current aircraft availability constraints, and prevailing commercial assessments, as stated in a press release issued by the airline.

Passengers holding confirmed tickets for travel on or after July 1st are assured of a full reimbursement or the option for ticket revalidation without any financial penalty, the airline affirmed.

Biman has requested affected passengers to liaise with their respective sales offices, ticketing counters, or authorized travel agents to facilitate the processing of refunds or the arrangement of alternative bookings.

The airline conveyed its regret for any inconvenience caused and expressed its gratitude to passengers for their understanding during this temporary service disruption.

On September 1st, 2023, Biman had recommenced its Dhaka-Narita flight operations with the objective of establishing the direct air link between Bangladesh and Japan as a commercially viable route.

Biman had previously suspended its Dhaka-Tokyo route in 2006 due to a lack of commercial viability at that time, compounded by an insufficient fleet of aircraft, according to aviation sector stakeholders.
