In accordance with the Anti-Terrorism Act, the council of advisers has resolved to prohibit all Awami League operations until the International Crimes Tribunal has finished trying the AL and its leaders.
At its extraordinary meeting, which was convened tonight at the State Guest House Jamuna, the council made the decision. According to a statement released by the Chief Adviser’s Press Wing tonight, the council also adopted the change to the International Crimes (Tribunals) Act that added a clause that would punish any political party, its connected organizations, or its followers.
According to the amendment, the International Crimes Tribunal will be able to punish any political party, its affiliated organisations or supporters’ groups.
The council of advisers decided to ban all activities of the Awami League, including in cyberspace, under the Anti-Terrorism Act until the trial of Awami League and its leaders is completed in the International Crimes Tribunal aiming to protect the security and sovereignty of the country, the safety of the leaders and activists of the July Movement and the plaintiffs and witnesses of the International Crimes Tribunal.
The necessary circular will be issued to this end on the next working day, the statement said.
In addition, the meeting also decided to finalise and publish the July Proclamation within the next 30 working days.
