In order to promote mutual prosperity, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka have reaffirmed their dedication to strengthening their bilateral ties and encouraging regional economic cooperation.
Arun Hemachandra, Sri Lanka’s deputy foreign minister, and Md. Touhid Hossain, Bangladesh’s foreign adviser, met Thursday afternoon on the fringes of the 20th BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting to discuss the matter.
According to a news release from the foreign ministry released today, bilateral matters of mutual interest were covered during the discussion.
The significance of strengthening Bangladesh-Sri Lanka economic cooperation was emphasized by the two leaders.
Hossain was visited earlier by Indra Mani Pandey, the secretary general of BIMSTEC.
As the incoming Chair of the regional forum, the adviser reaffirmed Bangladesh’s unwavering commitment to the BIMSTEC process and praised the BIMSTEC Secretariat’s contribution in promoting regional collaboration.
The Secretary General asked for Bangladesh’s assistance in commemorating BIMSTEC’s impending 30th anniversary.
The Adviser responded by applauding the idea and urging the BIMSTEC Secretariat to develop a detailed strategy for the anniversary festivities.
Both parties reiterated their dedication to collaborating closely to ensure the success of Bangladesh’s future Chairship and to appropriately commemorating BIMSTEC’s thirty years of regional cooperation.
Ahead of today’s sixth BIMSTEC meeting in Bangkok, the adviser led the Bangladeshi team to the 20th BIMSTEC Ministerial Meeting on Thursday.
