Zakat important to establish social justice: Bashir

Today, Commerce Adviser Sk Bashir Uddin stated that zakat has its splendor and effect on the social system worldwide, emphasizing its crucial role in establishing social justice.

Bashir made this statement as the main guest speaker at the Aloki Convention Center on the Tejgaon-Gulshan Link Road in the capital during a conference titled “Role of Islamic Social Finance in Economic Empowerment and Human Development.”

According to a handout, the Commerce Advisor stated that in addition to encouraging individuals to donate zakat, efforts should be made to highlight the impact of zakat on society.

According to him, social fairness cannot be guaranteed in a free market economy if the taxation system is not functioning correctly.

Even though many individuals, notably young people, gave their lives during last year’s July revolution to rid the nation of unfairness and disparities, Bashir claimed that inequality still exists to some degree.

“To root out such inequality, we should have to ensure balanced distribution  of resources,” he stated.

Dr. M Emranul Haque, an associate professor in the Manchester University Department of Microeconomics, gave the seminar’s keynote address.

As the honored guest, Datuk Dr. Mohd Ghazali Md Noor, Secretary General of the World Zakat and Waqf Forum (WZWF), spoke under the direction of renowned economist and former caretaker government adviser Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman.

Discussants included former NBR Chairman Dr. Mohammad Abdul Mazid, Prof. Dr. Mohammad Omar Faruk, Head of the Economics Department at United International University, Prof. Mokhter Hossain, Chairman of the Tarabiyah Education Network, Dr. Mohammad Ayub Miah, CEO of the Center for Zakat Management (CZM), convenor of the Center for Zakat Management executive council, and Rahim-Afroz Group Director Munwar Misbah Moin.

Earlier, the Commerce Adviser inaugurated the two-day 13th Zakat Fair-2025
being organized by the CZM. The Fair will remain open for everybody till 7:00
pm tomorrow.
