Dhaka seeks Philippines support to recover rest BB’s stolen money 

Today, Dhaka commended the Philippines for the assistance that Bangladesh has gotten thus far in recovering the money that was stolen from Bangladesh Bank (BB) and asked for its continued assistance in restoring the remaining sum.

According to a ministry press release, Nina Padilla Cainglet, the recently appointed Philippine ambassador to Bangladesh, paid Foreign Secretary Ambassador Md. Jashim Uddin a courtesy call at the foreign ministry today and requested the assistance.

The foreign secretary also asked the Philippines to back Bangladesh’s efforts to end the long-running Rohingya problem and become an ASEAN Sectoral Dialogue Partner.

The envoy assured her full support on all these matters.

During the meeting, the foreign secretary and the Ambassador stressed on strengthening the bilateral ties between Bangladesh and the Philippines which is built on mutual respect, shared cultural values, goodwill, and common goals for development. 

In order to thoroughly discuss the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and resolve topics of mutual interest, they decided to call the third Foreign Office Consultations (FOC) between Bangladesh and the Philippines as soon as possible.

The Foreign Secretary stressed the importance of completing the two nations’ outstanding bilateral treaties in order to promote more seamless cooperation in a number of areas.

Jasim Uddin emphasized the significance of increasing trade and commerce between the two nations and stated that the full potential of bilateral trade is still unrealized.

He also emphasized the need to prioritize investment, direct air connectivity, capacity-building for migrant workers, nursing education, tourism, and stronger people-to-people ties.
