ICT orders NTMC, BTRC to preserve July-August uprising data

The Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) and the National Telecommunication Monitoring Centre (NTMC) were directed by the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) today to keep all of the data from the popular revolt in July and August intact.

Additionally, the tribunal mandated that all internet service providers and mobile carriers in the nation support the ICT inquiry body’s investigative efforts.

According to Chief Prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam, the three-member panel presided over by Justice Md. Golam Mortuza Mozumder issued the rulings permitting the prosecution to enter pleas.

“A report was published today in daily Kalbela stating the ICT has ordered to submit wealth statements of 75 influential people of the last Awami League government, whereas no such order has been passed by the tribunal. The tribunal today issued a suo moto order, asking the concerned reporter to appear before it on January 20 and give explanation in this regard,” Tajul told newsmen at his office.

The ICT chief prosecutor further said the tribunal probe body has the legal jurisdiction to summon any person, authorities or seek any documents from them without any order from the ICT, adding, “In spite of this, the prosecution today filed a petition and got an order in this regard.”
