Ukraine strikes on occupied Donetsk kill three

According to officials, Ukrainian strikes on the Russian-occupied Donetsk region on Friday morning killed three persons and injured six others.

According to Denis Pushilin, the regional chief appointed by Russia, Ukraine used precision-guided long-range missiles fired by HIMARS rocket launchers to strike a square in the region’s capital city of Donetsk during the morning rush hour.

Russia’s Investigative Committee told RIA Novosti news agency that Ukraine intentionally fired on civilian infrastructure in the strikes on Shakhtarska Ploshcha, also known as Miners’ Square, killing two people and wounding two more.

Two enormous explosions were followed by bursts of flame and multiple additional explosions near a street where cars and buses were passing, according to a dashcam video that was made public by Russian media.

Investigators’ video evidence, which was made public by the TASS news agency, showed windows blasted out and facades torn off in buildings, a car with shrapnel holes in it, and what one investigator claims are pieces from a HIMARS missile.

Far from the front line and under Russian rule since 2014, Donetsk city has escaped much of the devastation that the fighting has inflicted on other eastern Ukrainian cities.

According to Pushilin, Ukraine also struck a multi-story residential complex near the front line in the village of Svitlodarsk, killing a woman and injuring four others.
