In a letter to the International Criminal Police Organisation (INTERPOL), the office of the chief prosecutor of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) urged it to issue a red notice against Sheikh Hasina, the ousted prime minister, in order to facilitate her arrest and repatriation for her role in planning the murders and genocides that took place during the July and August student-led mass uprising.
“Sheikh Hasina is accused of different crimes against humanity including killing, detention, enforced disappearance and genocides. She has fled the country and is now living abroad. We have sent the letter to the INTERPOL on November 10 to arrest her or to issue red notice against her,” ICT chief prosecutor Muhammad Tajul Islam said.
The international policing agency has been urged to conduct the required actions to enable her arrest and bring her before the tribunal within twenty-four hours of the arrest, the ICT chief prosecutor added.
On November 10, Dr. Asif Nazrul, the adviser for law, justice, and parliamentary affairs, stated that the government would ask INTERPOL to issue red notices in order to apprehend and return fugitives, including Sheikh Hasina, who are suspected of being involved in the murders and genocide that took place during the July and August student-led mass uprising.
“The step to issue the International Criminal Police Organization (INTERPOL) red notice will be taken soon,” he said while talking to newsmen after inspecting renovation works of the International Crimes Tribunal (ICT) building here on that day.
