As the Israeli military continues its attack against Hamas in the northern part of the Palestinian enclave, Gaza rescuers reported that at least 30 people were killed by Israeli strikes in Gaza on Sunday.
“Since dawn today, at least 17 citizens have been martyred in Israeli attacks on homes and citizens in the northern Gaza Strip,” said Gaza’s civil defence agency spokesman Mahmud Bassal.
Four people were killed in Jabalia and six in the town of Beit Lahia. According to him, they included ladies and children.
“Horrific” is how Muhammad Salha, the director of Al-Awda Hospital in Jabalia, put it.
In a statement, he added that over 70% of the casualties at his facility required immediate surgical surgery, and that he was the only general surgeon remaining in northern Gaza.
In what it describes as an operation to stop Hamas from regrouping, Israel’s military has been launching a massive air and ground assault in northern Gaza since October 6, focussing on the regions of Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and Beit Hanoun.
“The Israeli occupation has continued around-the-clock bombardment of civilian homes, especially in northern Gaza,” Bassal said on Sunday.
“This shelling has led to the destruction of numerous buildings and infrastructure… Over 100,000 residents are in northern Gaza without food, water or medicine,” he added.
He said that residents were “being bombed without prior warning” to AFP.
Separately, medical professionals in southern Gaza said that multiple Israeli attacks on Sunday killed 13 Palestinians.
“The martyrdom of nine citizens, including four children, in an Israeli air strike east of Khan Yunis” was reported by medical professionals from the health ministry in Hamas-controlled Gaza.
Following a raid on the eastern Khirbet al-Adas neighbourhood of Rafah, the civil defence agency reported recovering the dead of a woman and her two children.
The agency also reported the death of another individual.
