At least three people were killed Tuesday by Russian strikes on a residential area of Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city, according to the mayor.
“At 2:51 am, Kharkiv came under aerial attack”, Igor Terekhov said on Telegram, adding that “two houses were destroyed and about 20 houses sustained varying degrees of damage”.
Responders were removing the debris, he continued, and three confirmed deaths had been reported.
During the two-and-a-half-year conflict, Russian aerial strikes have bombarded Kharkiv, which is about 30 kilometres (18 miles) from the Russian border.
The Derzhprom building, a unique modernist skyscraper from the early Soviet era that has come to represent the brutally attacked northeastern city, was damaged Monday by a Russian strike.
At least six individuals were hurt in the incident, which also caused damage to a medical facility.
