Chief Adviser seeks more Russian investment in Bangladesh

Today, Russian businesspeople were urged by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus to increase their investment in Bangladesh.

As Alexander V. Mantytskiy, the Russian ambassador to Bangladesh, paid him a parting visit at his Tejgaon office, he made the call.

Mantytskiy recounted his memorable experiences during his more than three-year term serving as the Russian Federation’s ambassador to Bangladesh during the conference.

He updated the Chief Adviser on the status of the nuclear power station at Rooppur, which is scheduled to begin producing electricity in the upcoming year. Russia is the plant’s principal sponsor, and the project is being carried out by its specialists.

The discussion also covered the exploration efforts of Russia’s state-run corporation Gazprom in Bangladesh, Russian wheat and fertilizer exports, and the settlement of the debt of the Rooppur factory.
Chief Advisor Prof. Yunus valued Russia’s assistance in the energy and power industries as well as its role in supplying Bangladesh with wheat and fertilizer.

The Chief Adviser promised that the Rooppur project’s payment problems will be resolved by the temporary administration.

Dr. Yunus greeted Russian investment in Bangladesh with a “We will work together.”

The meeting was attended by Md Abul Hasan Mridha, the director general of the foreign ministry, and Lamiya Morshed, senior secretary and head of SDG Affairs.
