UN commends Bangladesh’s contribution to peacekeeping missions

Bangladesh has been recognized by the United Nations (UN) for its contributions to various peacekeeping operations around the globe.

The praise was expressed during a bilateral meeting between UN Assistant Secretary General for Middle East, Asia, and the Pacific of the Department of Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Khaled Khiari and Bangladesh Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin on Tuesday at the UN headquarters in New York, according to a press release issued today.

Khiari acknowledged Bangladesh’s leadership during the meeting for providing peacekeeping assistance to nations like Peru and the Gambia.

In addition to briefing the assistant general secretary on the actions taken by the interim administration in a number of areas, the foreign secretary asked the UN to assist Bangladesh on this crucial path.

Both parties emphasized the long-standing collaboration in many fields between Bangladesh and the UN.
They also talked about how to better cooperate in the areas of development, rule of law, and human rights.

According to the announcement, the UN also stated at the conference how eager it was to carry on with its peacekeeping efforts in Bangladesh.

Previous to this, the foreign secretary made remarks before the UNGA’s Second and First Committees during its 79th session.

In his address, Jashim expressed Dhaka’s promise to maintain stronger partnership with the UN and the broader international community in realizing a peaceful, inclusive and resilient Bangladesh, in the spirit of student-mass-led “July-August Revolution”.

The foreign secretary emphasized in the Second Committee that action must be taken to guarantee global growth and resilience while addressing today’s issues, which include financial crises, conflicts, inflation, rising commodity prices, environmental degradation, and biodiversity loss.

He demanded that the global financial system be completely reformed, that serious climate action be taken, and that illegal financial flows be addressed in order to protect the current and future generations.

In addition, he emphasized that preserving peace and providing youngsters with a high-quality education and digital skills are crucial building blocks for resilience and sustainability.

In the First Committee, the foreign secretary called upon all states to work collectively for total delimination of nuclear weapons and to promote a culture of peace against a culture of war and violence.
