The necessity of expedited third-country resettlement for the Rohingya people, who have been residing in Bangladesh, was emphasized by Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today.
According to the chief adviser’s press office, the contact was made during a meeting with officials of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) at his office.
The resettlement of the Rohingyas to developed countries, including the United States, was the subject of an overview by Abdusattor Esoev, the IOM Chief of Mission in Bangladesh.
While Washington DC has reiterated its dedication to the resettlement of thousands of Rohingyas in the United States, the process has not been expedited.
The officials were requested by the Chief Adviser to expedite the procedure.
The resettlement process should be straightforward, consistent, and seamless, as he informed senior officials in Bangladesh.
“He informed the officials of the IOM and the Bangladesh government that it should be the simplest step in the process.”
After a 12-year hiatus, the resettlement of the Rohingyas was resumed in 2022, according to the IOM Bangladesh chief. However, the process only began to gain momentum this year.
Foreign Adviser Touhid Hossain, Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin, Home Secretary Abdul Momen, Secretary on SDG Affairs Lamiya Morshed, Secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief Kamrul Hasan, and IOM Deputy Chief of Mission Fatima Nusrath Ghazzali were also in attendance at the meeting..
