Gopibagh train fire: 7-member probe body formed

A seven-person committee has been established by Bangladesh Railway to look into the Gopibagh train fire incident.

The committee has been given three working days to turn in its findings.

The Ministry of Railways’ top information officer, Siraj-ud-Daula Khan, verified the situation early on Saturday.

He announced that Soumik Shaon Kabir, a Divisional Signal and Telecommunication Engineer from Dhaka, will head the inquiry committee.

At least four persons lost their lives due to burn injuries in the incident that was reported at 9:05 p.m. on Friday.

Seven firefighting units brought the blaze under control at 10:20pm, said Rakibul Hasan, duty officer of Fire Service and Civil Defence.

At least five compartments of the train have been set ablaze by miscreants.

Ashraf Hossain, sub-inspector of Dhaka Railway Police Station, said they received information about the fire from the emergency service number 999 around 9:07pm.

Police officials feared that people could be trapped inside.
