The death toll from Haiti’s terrible earthquake on August 14 has risen to 2,189, according to Haiti’s civil protection agency, which also revealed that over 12,260 people were injured in the natural disaster.
Over 100,000 structures have been entirely or partially destroyed in the country as a result of the earthquake, and rescuers are still cleaning debris and seeking survivors.
Last Saturday, Haiti was struck by a magnitude 7.2 earthquake. At a depth of 10 kilometres, the earthquake’s epicentre was 40 kilometres from the city of Les Cayes, which has a population of 125,000 people.
Following the fatal earthquake, the country’s government declared a state of emergency for one month.
