The Taliban have taken control of Kunduz, the third provincial capital they have taken over in the previous three days, according to the armed organization.
The Taliban claimed control of the city’s police headquarters, governor’s compound, and prison in a statement released on Sunday.
Taliban fighters are present in the capital, according to local informants and journalists in Kunduz.
The group captured the provinces of Nimroz and Jowzjan in the previous two days, up to Sunday’s takeover.
In 2015 and 2016, Kunduz has been captured by ISIS.
The Taliban took control of Sheberghan on Saturday, according to the city’s deputy governor, a day after Zaranj, in Nimruz province, fell “without a fight,” according to its deputy governor.
