Newly-elected Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi lauds Bangladesh’s robust development

Ayatollah Dr Seyyed Ebrahim Raisi, Iran’s newly-elected President, has praised Bangladesh’s strong economic growth under Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s leadership.

On Friday, State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam met with President Raisi for a 20-minute conversation.

Earlier, Alam led a three-member Bangladesh delegation to the newly-elected Iranian president’s swearing-in ceremony.

During the discussion, Iran’s president recalled his travel to Bangladesh 20 years ago, highlighting his visit to Jessore in particular.

President Abdul Hamid and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina congratulated President Raisi on his election as president, which he appreciated.

While appreciating Bangladesh for its support for Palestine in international forums, he stated that the Palestinian question is the Muslim community’s first and main concern.

He also praised Bangladesh for sheltering over a million Rohingyas who had been forcibly expelled from their homeland.

The president emphasized his willingness to visit Bangladesh in the near future and expressed his desire to work closely with Bangladesh to achieve mutual benefits for both countries.

Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and the state minister met to discuss measures to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Increased connectivity and private sector cooperation in trade and investment between the two countries are priorities for the state minister.
