The death toll from a car bomb and mortar attack on a school in Kabul, Afghanistan, has risen to 68. At least 165 people were injured.
Most of the casualties in the blasts on Saturday (May 8th) were female students. Afghan President Ashraf Ghani has blamed the Taliban for the attack.
But the Taliban say they are not involved in the attack. The rebel group has condemned the heinous attack.
A senior security official in the country said most of the casualties were students at Sayedul Shuhada School. The explosions happened as they were leaving the school.
The condition of many of the injured is critical.
As seen in the video of the TV channel Tolo News, the situation outside the school is tense. Books and schoolbags are scattered on the bloody road. Locals were seen coming forward to help the injured.
One eyewitness said it was a car bomb blast, which occurred right next to the school entrance. He said all but seven or eight of the victims were schoolgirls returning home after school.
Saeed ul Shuhada School is a joint high school for boys and girls. Classes are held here in three shifts and the second is for female students.
