PM to open higher education workshop at DU tomorrow  

At 10 a.m. tomorrow, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman will open a day-long national workshop on higher education at Dhaka University’s Nabab Nawab Ali Chowdhury Senate Bhaban.

In an effort to modernize and preserve the nation’s higher education system, the University Grants Commission (UGC) will host a workshop titled “Transforming Higher Education in Bangladesh: A Roadmap for Sustainable Excellence.”

Since taking office, the premier will make his first formal visit to his alma institution.

UGC Chairman Professor Mamun Ahmed presented the details of the workshop at a press conference today in the UGC conference room this afternoon.

He said the workshop would play an important role in improving the quality of higher education and developing internationally competitive skilled human resources. 

He added that it would also help shape the government’s future plans and policy directions regarding higher education. 

Based on participants’ opinions, initiatives will be taken to formulate a practical policy roadmap for higher education reform.

Education Minister Dr ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon and Prime Minister’s Education Affairs Adviser Mahdi Amin will attend the inaugural session to be chaired by the UGC chairman.

Following the opening session, five technical sessions will be held focusing on graduate employability, soft skills development, and demand-driven education; industry-academia collaboration and global competitiveness; digital transformation, digital literacy, and the integration of artificial intelligence; faculty development, research excellence, and internationalization; and governance, quality assurance, and institutional reform. Discussions and recommendations will be formulated on these issues.

DU Vice-Chancellor Prof A B M Obaidul Islam will attend the closing ceremony as the chief guest.

Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Prof Abu Borhan Mohammad Badruzzaman, North South University VC Prof Abdul Hannan Chowdhury and State University of Bangladesh VC Prof Md. Akhter Hossain Khan will attend as special guests.
