On Thursday, US President Donald Trump reiterated his criticism of German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, advising him to concentrate on ending the conflict in Ukraine rather than “interfering” with Iran.
A day after declaring that he was thinking of redeploying some of the tens of thousands of US soldiers stationed in Germany, a crucial NATO ally, Trump launched his second tirade of the week on Merz.
“The Chancellor of Germany should spend more time on ending the war with Russia/Ukraine (Where he has been totally ineffective!), and fixing his broken Country, especially Immigration and Energy,” Trump said on his Truth Social network.
He added that Merz ought to spend “less time on interfering with those that are getting rid of the Iran Nuclear threat, thereby making the World, including Germany, a safer place!”
Merz’s remarks on Monday that Tehran was “humiliating” the US in talks to end the US-Israeli war on Iran, which has recently entered its third month, reportedly enraged Trump.
The US president’s remarks also follow a conversation he had with Russian President Vladimir Putin the day before, which Trump claimed was mostly about putting an end to the conflict in Ukraine, which Moscow’s forces had invaded in February 2022.
Although he hasn’t made much headway, Trump has long said he could end the conflict there quickly.
