According to Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, the government is aiming to create a contemporary, user-friendly, and efficient service system in order to properly recognize the abilities of inventors, researchers, entrepreneurs, and creative people.
“Necessary measures such as online registration, expedited services, strengthened legal protection, and actions against counterfeit products have already been undertaken,” he said.
In a statement released in honor of “World Intellectual Property Day,” which Bangladesh will mark tomorrow along with other nations worldwide, the prime minister made this statement.
The Prime Minister stated in his statement that Bangladesh is celebrating “World Intellectual Property Day 2026” with due significance, emphasizing its relevance for the nation’s rapid development.
He praised this year’s topic, “IP and Sports: Ready, Set, Innovate,” as important and appropriate, especially in terms of utilizing young people’s intellectual potential.
Tarique Rahman stated that he is adamant that intellectual property protection promotes originality, inventiveness, and fresh concepts.
“It also plays a vital role in sports technology, athlete training systems, branding of sports goods, broadcasting industry, digital content, and entrepreneurship development,” he added.
The Prime Minister noted with satisfaction that Bangladesh is enriched with a vibrant youth population. He said that in the current era of rapid advancement in information technology, agriculture, industry, research, startups, and the creative economy, ensuring intellectual property protection is a key prerequisite for national progress. “The incumbent government is aware in this regard,” he added.
Highlighting the importance of safeguarding traditional Bangladeshi products, the Prime Minister said the government is also committed and thus working to secure international recognition and protection for geographical indication (GI) local products such as Jamdani and Hilsa, thereby strengthening their position in the global market.
He further noted that the inclusion of sports in this year’s theme is highly justified, as sports has evolved beyond entertainment into a promising profession, a source of social strength, and an emerging economic sector.
Tarique Rahman mentioned that initiatives such as allowances and sports cards for national athletes have been introduced to ensure their financial security and a dignified life.
“Efforts are also underway to identify new talents across the country, expand modern training facilities, and build a world-class sporting environment,” he added.
The Prime Minister also expressed hope that these initiatives would create new opportunities in sports-based industries, production of sports goods, branding, sports media, tourism, investment, and employment.
