At the 82nd session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP), Bangladesh emphasized the necessity of increased regional collaboration to secure a sustainable future.
According to a press release received here today, the Bangladeshi delegation was led by Minister of Posts, Telecommunications, and Information Technology Fakir Mahbub Anam during the session, which was taking place in Bangkok from April 21 to 24 under the theme “Leaving no one behind: advancing a society for all ages in Asia and the Pacific”.
Anutin Charnvirakul, the prime minister of Thailand, opened the meeting.
In his speech, Fakir Mahbub Anam called for closer cooperation among regional countries to tackle challenges such as climate change, global economic pressures and uncertainties. He said mutual partnerships and coordinated initiatives are essential to ensure sustainable development.
Fakir Mahbub Anam highlighted Bangladesh’s internal development, saying the government is focusing on helping small and medium-sized businesses, drawing in investment, and encouraging innovation. Additionally, he highlighted the creation of jobs, the improvement of skills, and the greater involvement of women and young people in the digital economy.
The minister emphasized that inclusive growth necessitates international cooperation and restated Bangladesh’s commitment to social protection, healthcare, renewable energy, and climate action.
The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are still not being achieved as quickly as anticipated, according to ESCAP Executive Secretary Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana. This underscores the need for increased regional cooperation, policy alignment, and data-driven decision-making.
