Van Dijk Extends Stay with Liverpool, Signing New Two-Year Contract

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has officially committed to the Premier League club by signing a new two-year contract. The 33-year-old Dutch centre-back’s decision ends months of speculation, following the earlier contract extension of teammate Mohamed Salah.

“I’m very happy, very proud,” Van Dijk shared after signing the deal. “There are so many emotions obviously that go through my head right now speaking about it. It’s a proud feeling, it’s a feeling of joy. It’s just incredible. The journey I’ve had so far in my career, to be able to extend it with another two years at this club is amazing and I’m so happy.”

Van Dijk, who joined Liverpool from Southampton in January 2018, has been pivotal in the club’s resurgence in both English and European football. Over his 314 appearances for the team, he has helped secure several major trophies, including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, two League Cups, the UEFA Super Cup, and the Club World Cup.
