UK’s Catherine turns 43 hoping for better year

On Thursday, Catherine, Princess of Wales, marks her 43rd birthday. She hopes to get behind a difficult year in which she had to withdraw from public life in order to battle cancer.

Following her announcement in September that she had finished chemotherapy for an unidentified disease, Kate, as she is more often known, is anticipated to increase her royal engagements in 2025.

The Princess of Wales often celebrates her 44th birthday in Norfolk with relatives, however Kensington Palace has not disclosed where she will do so.

As Kate and his father, King Charles III, underwent treatment for the illness last year, her husband Prince William, the heir apparent to the British monarchy, was frequently photographed by himself.

However, as they look to return to normalcy, the royal couple plans to appear more frequently together over the course of the next 12 months. William has even hinted that an international trip might be in the works.

Since attending the Rugby World Cup in France in October 2023, the princess has not participated in an official international trip.

“I think hopefully Catherine will be doing a bit more next year, so we’ll have some more trips maybe lined up,” William said during a visit to Cape Town in November.

On January 16, 2024, Catherine was admitted to the hospital for stomach surgery; it has been about a year since her birthday.

After her surgery, she stayed at the London Clinic for almost two weeks. She was recovering at home when she learned she had cancer and needed to start chemotherapy.

In March, Kate finally put an end to the frenzied internet speculation about her illness and location caused by her lack of public appearances by posting a video message on Instagram announcing her diagnosis.

Although she received a lot of sympathy and praise for being transparent, the declaration also caused a problem for the monarchy because her father-in-law, Charles, was also suffering from the illness.

Catherine received further praise following the release of a new video in September, in which she said that the previous nine months had been “incredibly tough”.
