BFIU seeks account details of Hasina, Rehana from banks

The deposed prime minister Sheikh Hasina and her younger sister Sheikh Rehana’s account data have been requested by the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) from banks.

The anti-money laundering organisation has also requested information about the accounts connected to the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Memorial Trust in a letter.

According to the letter, Sheikh Rehana was one of the trust’s trustees, and Hasina is its chairperson.

Banks have been instructed to submit all the relevant information, including transaction records, account opening forms and other related information within five working days, the BFIU letter noted.
