The Bangladesh NGOs Network for Radio and Communication (BNNRC) is pleased to announce onboard with the European Union Digital for Development Hub (D4D Hub). This onboard aims to enhance our collective efforts in advancing digital development initiatives.
The European Union and its Member States created the Digital for Development (D4D) Hub as a strategic platform to encourage multi-stakeholder collaborations and increase investments in promoting a human-centric digital revolution globally.
The D4D Hub aims to shape a sustainable digital future for all, bridging digital divides to place people at the heart of digital economies and societies globally with the following four objectives: Coordinate European digital cooperation efforts to increase their impact, Boost joint investments and strengthen digital cooperation between European and global partners, Foster multi-stakeholder collaboration and knowledge sharing between members, civil society, academia, and private sector actors, and Promote the European approach to human-centric digital transformation.
The D4D Hub is working together to achieve a human-centric digital transformation. The core of the D4D Hub’s work is to put people at the heart of digital transformation. In practice, all activities facilitated by the D4D Hub aim to build inclusive digital economies and societies where all citizens (notably women and young people) have equal opportunities to participate in the digital world. Team Europe (the EU and its Member States) is committed to international partnerships that shape a digital future driven by people’s needs, fundamental rights, and answers to intersectional challenges to closing the digital divides.
The D4D Hub was launched in December 2020 by the President of the European Commission, European Heads of State, and partners representing the private sector, academia, and civil society organizations.
11 EU Member States (Belgium, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, and the Netherlands) joined the D4D Hub upon its launch. Slovenia joined in 2021, while Italy, Romania, and Latvia joined in 2023. Croatia became the D4D Hub’s newest member in 2024. Initially focused on Africa, the D4D Hub was launched in Latin America and the Caribbean (December 2021), Asia-Pacific (February 2022), and the EU’s neighboring countries (October 2023). The D4D Hub is now active in these regions to strengthen digital cooperation.
Civil society and academia are crucial partners in helping the D4D Hub to promote a value-based digital transformation. Civil society organizations give marginalized and vulnerable groups a voice and can help hold governments and the private sector accountable.
To assist the D4D Hub members in creating a positive digital revolution for both people and the environment, the academic community offers evidence. By joining the advisory committee for academia and civil society, both stakeholder groups can formally participate in the D4D Hub’s decision-making process.
The D4D Hub has ten working groups that allow members to engage in thematic collaboration. The working groups are on Artificial Intelligence (AI), Connectivity, Cybersecurity, Digital and green transition, Digital Governance, Digital Health, Digital skills, Earth observation and space, Entrepreneurship and innovation, and Gender and digital rights. Co-led by the European Commission and the EU Member States, they aim to increase coordination, facilitate knowledge exchanges, and incubate new initiatives, investments, and innovations in these sectors. Below is an overview of the different topics that we work on.
