South Korean president says will not impose second martial law

Yoon Suk Yeol, the beleaguered president of South Korea, declared on Saturday that he will not reinstate martial law.

Rumour has said that martial law will be imposed once more. I want to be clear. In a speech to the country, Yoon declared that a second martial law would never materialise.

Ahead of Saturday’s scheduled impeachment vote for South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s bid to establish martial law, members of his party departed parliament.

Only one member of Yoon’s People Power Party (PPP) was still in his seat throughout the debate of the resolution, which was submitted by the main opposition Democratic Party. This raised questions about whether the move would receive the two-thirds majority needed to pass.

Members of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol’s party left parliament ahead of Saturday’s planned impeachment vote over his attempt to impose martial law.

The motion, put forth by the main opposition Democratic Party, was debated with only one member of Yoon’s People Power Party (PPP) remaining in his seat. This made it uncertain if the motion would obtain the two-thirds majority required to pass.
