Fresh Rohingya influx put enormous pressure on govt. bodies

A fresh surge of inflow has exacerbated the long-running Rohingya problem, putting tremendous pressure on the local government and important government agencies to take practical action.

According to a news release issued here today, this was said at a consultation meeting conducted at Cox’s Bazar on Friday that was attended by Foreign Secretary Md. Jashim Uddin, who is also the Chair of the National Task Force on Forcibly Displaced Myanmar Nationals (FDMNs).

The meeting’s conversation centred on the Rohingya camps’ state and problems that affect both the camps and the host communities.

The meeting highlighted the urgency of sustainable repatriation of the forcibly displaced Rohingya to their homeland, for social, ecological and economic restoration in Cox’s Bazar.

The humanitarian and security aspects of the camps featured prominently in the discussions.

As suggested by Chief Adviser Prof. Dr. Muhammad Yunus, the Foreign Secretary announced that the Foreign Ministry is collaborating with the UN on the Rohingya issue in order to hold a High Level Conference.

The Cox’s Bazar The meeting was presided over by Deputy Commissioner and District Magistrate Muhammad Salahuddin.

During the two-day visit, which took place from November 8 to 9, the Foreign Secretary had the opportunity to observe directly the activities and coordination efforts of various agencies, including the Office of the Refugee Relief and Repatriation Commissioner (RRRC) and international partners, in responding to the Rohingya crisis.
