Boeing 767 ‘technical incident’ in Senegal: ministry

A Boeing 767 chartered by Delta was forced to make an emergency stop on Saturday as it was taking off from Dakar for New York, Senegal’s air transport ministry announced.

“The plane, in its take-off phase, carried out an acceleration manouevre followed by an emergency stop because of a technical incident,” said the ministry statement.

It also stated that the flight had been postponed, the pilot had safely stopped the aircraft, and none of the 213 passengers had been injured. The event occurred at approximately 11:30 a.m. (1130 GMT).

According to the government, the BEA, Senegal’s national aviation security organisation, will look into what had occurred.

Following several Boeing aeroplane safety scares, including one in Senegal at Dakar International Airport, this incident occurred.

There, during takeoff in May, a Boeing 737/300 went off the runway, hurting eleven people and closing the hub for many hours.

The airport management corporation LAS stated at the time that the aircraft, operated by Air Senegal, had been hired from privately held Transair.
