Samuel Eto’o, the head of the Cameroon football federation, was given a six-month FIFA ban on Monday due to his actions during a Women’s Under-20 World Cup play.
FIFA’s regulations concerning “offensive behavior, violation of the principles of fair-play and misconduct of players and officials” were found to have been broken by the former Barcelona player.
The accusations include Cameroon’s matchup with Brazil in the round of 16, which the South Americans prevailed 3-1 following extra time.
When Brazil equalized in the game on September 11 in Bogota, Colombia, Eto’o and the Cameroon delegation were shown red.
Eto’o is barred from all Cameroon games, regardless of gender or age group, although his position as president of Fecafoot, the country’s football association, remains unaffected.
The Confederation of African Football found Eto’o’s brand arrangement with an online gambling company to be unethical, and he was fined $200,000 for it in July.
Having been elected Fecafoot’s president in 2021, Eto’o also had a falling out with his nation’s sports ministry, accusing them of being “illegal” in their hiring of Belgian Marc Brys as the men’s team coach earlier this year.
