The Olympic Council of Asia in New Delhi announced that Randhir Singh, a seasoned sports administrator from India, was elected as its president on Sunday without opposition.
From 2024 to 2028, Singh, a five-time Olympian and shooter, will assume responsibility.
Singh was elected by 44 out of 45 ballots, with one abstention, becoming the first Indian to hold the highest sports position in Asia.
The position of president, five vice presidents for the five zones, and five executive board members were all uncontested.
Singh expressed his gratitude to the new board for the love and affection they have received, stating, “We are deeply honored.”
“I am deeply grateful.” Your assistance has demonstrated that Asia is a unified entity, a single family.
Singh has served as the interim president of the OCA since 2021, replacing Sheikh Ahmad Al-Fahad Al-Sabah of Kuwait.
Sheikh Ahmad, a member of Kuwait’s ruling family, was issued a 15-year suspension by the sports administration for ethical violations.
Singh served as a member of the International Olympic Committee from 2001 to 2014, following which he continued to be an honorary member of the global sports organization.
The governance entity for sports in Asia is the Olympic Council of Asia.
