21 boys confirmed dead in Kenya school inferno

On Saturday, a dormitory in central Kenya was the site of a fire that claimed the lives of 21 boys. This tragedy has prompted inquiries regarding the safety protocols of educational institutions across the country.

Another fire broke out at a girls’ school in the central region of the country after nightfall, with conflicting reports regarding injuries.

The nation’s chief prosecutor announced on Saturday that he had directed the police to investigate whether the fatal inferno at the Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri county was the result of negligence or recklessness.

Around midnight on Thursday, the flames consumed a boys’ dormitory at the school, where more than 150 students between the ages of nine and 13 were asleep.

Isaac Mwaura, the government spokesman, reported that 19 carcasses had been recovered from the site, and two more had passed away in the hospital.

He also stated that 139 of the 156 students who were in the dorm at the time had been located, either at home or in the hospital.

Mwaura stated during a press briefing that the situation is “beyond our comprehension.”

The dormitory, which was a blackened shell with a completely collapsed corrugated iron roof, was the site of the victims’ charred corpses, which the police had claimed were burnt beyond recognition.

On Saturday, forensic specialists and homicide teams intensified their investigations at the school, conducting DNA tests to identify the victims.
