Ferris wheel fire at German festival injures more than 20

A police official informed AFP that a Ferris wheel at a music festival outside Leipzig, Germany, caught fire on Saturday night, injuring around 20 people.

At the Highfield Festival, a fire that started on two gondolas just after 9:00 p.m. (1900 GMT) was rapidly contained.

A police representative stated that four individuals were burned, one was hurt in a fall, and eighteen more people had smoke inhalation injuries.

He also said that injuries were sustained by police officers and firefighters who were responding to the scene.

Images that were released by German media showed the Ferris wheel in flames, with thick black smoke rising over the ride.

According to the spokeswoman, all of the injured were taken to a neighboring hospital when helicopters and fire crews arrived promptly.

Every summer, thousands of people gather at the artificial Lake Stormthaler, which is located outside of Leipzig, for the Highfield event, which prides itself on being the largest independent rock event.

Rise Against, Flogging Molly, The Kooks, and Macklemore were on this year’s bill.
