Saudi Arabia announces new restrictions on Hajj visas

New rules pertaining to the granting of Hajj visas have been announced by Saudi Arabia, which clearly state that the visa is only valid for travel to Jeddah, Medina, and Makkah.

The Saudi Press Agency (SPA) has reported that the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has stated that starting in 2024, pilgrims taking part in the Hajj rituals will only be allowed access with a valid visa.

The ministry made it clear that traveling outside of the approved cities, working, or relocating is not permitted with a Hajj visa.

Breaking these rules could lead to deportation and a prohibition from doing the Hajj in the future.

Foreign travelers must get a Hajj visa, with the exception of those from the Gulf Cooperation Council nations, which need a permit.

The Hajj visa is only good for the duration of the Hajj season, and during that time its holders are not allowed to undertake Umrah or work for any kind of wage.

The ministry has made electronic registration available via the ministry of foreign affairs’ visa website.
